Name In Trend: Royal

I get it. The royal family is everywhere these days. Prince William and Dutchess Catherine are the new and hip "it" couple in the royal world that everyone loves to talk about - they're the young Diana and Charles, except this time the prince is actually likeable.

Name In Spotlight: Reign

After several days of speculation on what Kourtney Kardashian would name her second son, from Jeffrey, to something related to that name, it turns out we were all way off. She picked Reign. A lot of people were not pleased with this outlandish choice, but I dont think its as bad as North (West), or at least that name combo. And here's why: this name may seem crazy to us born in the 20th century, but for a newborn baby these days? It fits right in with other popular choices such as King or Major.

2013 Most Popular Baby Names

So the new list is out, and Jacob is finally off the top spot after a 15 year reign. Thank god for that. However, that is pretty much the only great news I have, at least from my perspective. Most of my favorite names aren't taking off, and the "same old same old" names are still hogging pretty much most of the boys rank.

The top 10:

BOYS

1. Noah
2. Liam
3. Jacob
4. Mason
5. William
6. Ethan
7. Michael
8. Alexander
9. Jayden
10. Daniel

Name In Spotlight: Royal Baby Name

First of all congrats to Kate and William on the birth of their newborn son George.

I wondered if back when Prince William and Harry were born, if their names had any influence in the US baby names. I went to the SSA and tracked 3 consecutive years (the year before they were born, the year they were born, and the year after that).

William

1981 24,782
1982 25,591
1983 25,379

Henry

1983 1,948
1984 2,028
1985 2,059

Harry

1983 753
1984 727
1985 780

So I suppose William was the only one that had a significant boost the year Prince William was born, however nothing astonishing. I wonder if this time it'll be different. What do you think? Will the boost be bigger for George? I think it will have a bigger boost than William and Henry/Harry had because of how much more exposed we are to these kind of things these days. Probably back in the top100 soon, but I'm not expecting something too crazy because it's not really a name that everyone seems to like, even amongst the "classics" fandom...
